Great post. Looking forward to the next one. I don&#039;t really use hacks because I try to write code using Web Standards and often sacrifice really cool effects or designs. My rationale is that it saves me time and money and who knows what the next browser on the market will be like.</description>

I also agree with you that the world is moving towards narrow casting. That&#039;s one of the reasons that social media is moving in the direction that it is. We tend to be interested in the same topics and products that our friends are.  We need to filter out all the blanket advertising and our friends help us do it.  

The advantage with social media is being able to collect behavioral information on each person. What are they talking about? What do they like? This is information that they are freely offering to the world through social media.  No surveys needed.  Where the aggregation comes in is trying to tie together those multiple social media profiles on one person to get a better feel for what they are really about.  

Microsoft has a very interesting product coming out called Looking Glass. It will allow a company to look at all the different social media types to get a sense for how potential people view them.  The best way to get to know someone is by talking with them one-on-one.  The second best way is to be able to listen to them talk to their friends. 

What if we could listen to what they are saying to all of their friends, across networks and platforms.  Now imagine being able to identify the group of people who would be interested in what you have to say.  Now send them targeted messaging with what they might be interested in.  Yeah, that&#039;s a little scary, but it could help craft messaging directly to the person who is interested in your product. I personally, would love to turn on my cable TV and only see certain shows and have every commercial be about guitars, audio software and wine. ( You get the point ) ( of course... being on Comcast I am lucky to see anything at all that&#039;s not buffering and stuttering )  It&#039;s the funnel process of boiling down relevant data that could be difficult. 

So just out of curiosity... how long does it take you to flip through 5000 stations? It sounds like a major time investment! :-)</description>

1. You&#039;re limiting yourself to what&#039;s popular in the U.S. and that might be a huge detriment; the world really is global (sorry for the cheap cliche).  The U.S. has 300 million people, China, India and Europe round up to over 3 billion!  Try to find out what&#039;s popular over there, you&#039;d be amazed.
2. I recently installed AT&amp;T Uverse hooked up at my house and guess what...I now have 5000 channels of nothing plus access to the internet at high speed and I&#039;m being promised more channels soon.
3. I have a Wii with multiple marketing and advertising channels when hooked up to the internet although I&#039;ve yet to buy a single thing from them.
4.  The world is moving to &quot;narrowcasting&quot; and that essentially means that if I&#039;m not into the specific thing you&#039;re marketing then I don&#039;t ever want to know about it and that hurts advertisers and marketers more than they know.   The &quot;broadcast&quot; concept of TV, magazines, newspaper, and other traditional media is quickly dying in favor of the specific-custom tailored &quot;narrow&quot; ad that I want to see that pertains to me and me only.

I think marketing needs to be designed around that last point.  It&#039;s not so much as an aggregator as much as YOU getting to know ME and what I like and want specifically.   You can find that information from people&#039;s tweets and facebook posts, etc.    My neighbor knows I like oranges and she brings them to me every Christmas.  My AT&amp;T rep doesn&#039;t know a damn thing about me which is why he hooked me up with 5000 channels hoping there&#039;d be something I like.   Guess who I&#039;d rather spend time with?</description>
